Belgian Bishop Trains Married Men to Be Ordained Priests by 2028. Bishop Johan Bonny of Antwerp, Belgium, told LaLibre.be on September 14 about his plan, announced already in March, to ordain married men to the priesthood by 2028. In June, he informed two Curia Cardinals about his course of action: Cardinal Lazarus You Heung-sik, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy, and Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops. Monsignor Bonny claims that the move is driven "by necessity", pointing to the acute shortage of priests in Flanders. Antwerp diocese has fewer than 70 priests under the age of 70, two-thirds of whom are from abroad. The Cardinals replied that they would discuss it with Pope Leo XIV. The writer interprets invisible cases of the baptism of desire as being visible exceptions for the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus of the Council of Florence. He also interprets invisible cases of LG 8, 14, 16, UR 3, etc as being visible exceptions for the dogma EENS, the Athanasius Creed and an ecumenism of return of the Syllabus of Pius IX. There is no comment or correction from the SSPX which interprets the Nicene Creed with visible instead of invisible cases of LG 16. They also interpret the other Creeds irrationally. For me Feeneyism refers to seeing what is invisible as being invisible only. While Cushingism refers to seeing what is invisible as being visible. Active Participation: You can participate without doing anything I think one of the things we really need to clarify when we talk about “active participation” at Mass is what we actually mean by the word “active.” Because sometimes, especially when comparing the Novus Ordo with the Traditional Latin Mass, it seems like active participation is understood primarily as doing something externally: saying more responses, making more gestures, moving around more, singing more, serving at the altar, reading the readings, bringing up the gifts, or somehow having a physical task to perform during the liturgy. And I understand where that idea comes from. Obviously, the congregation should not be completely disconnected from what is happening at the altar. Catholics are not supposed to be spectators at Mass. We are there to worship God. But if we define “active participation” as simply having a job to do or making more external responses and movements, then we run into a pretty obvious problem. If …More

On Mai 27 the rector of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna blessed a controversial bust of Sr Restituta Kafka who was murdered by the Nazis during Second World War and declared blessed by Pope John Paul II. The bust was produced by the Austrian artist Alfred Hrdlicka. He is an atheist and describes himself as a "Stalinist". Hrdlicka was personally commissioned by Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn of Vienna to produce the sculpture.
