Leo XIV appoints an interfaith champion, Monsignor Alfonso Raimo, 67, as Bishop of Terni-Narni-Amelia, Italy (September 15).
Raimo has been auxiliary bishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno since April 2024 and a honoaray member of Rotary Club since 2025.
Founder of an interreligious organization
In 2022, the School of Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue was formally constituted, with Raimo as its president.
In an October 2023 interview, Raimo explicitly connected the origins of his interreligious School with John Paul II's Assisi gathering. He explained that people of different religions walk together because “all religions can offer a contribution” to attaining peace.
He considers dialogue “not only as a desirable possibility but as a common obligation and the only viable path.”
Raimo described peace as a “harmony of differences” and called for accepting “diversity as an opportunity for personal growth and social development.”

Jane Allen was suffering from anorexia. She traveled to Colorado seeking treatment. Instead, her doctor offered assisted suicide — a prescription for death. Her father intervened just in time. Jane began to heal — eating again, tapering off morphine. The anorexia clinic dropped her, calling her a “liability.” When Jane chose life, her doctors walked away. Assisted suicide isn’t healthcare. It’s preying on the sick and vulnerable.

🇮🇹 A mosque dispute is escalating in Mestre, on the Venetian mainland. A Muslim association linked to the local Bangladeshi community bought a former sawmill for €1.5 million to build an Islamic centre. However, the site would require a municipal change of use. Venice Mayor Simone Venturini says the conditions for approval are not currently met, citing planning and integration concerns. Association president Prince Howlader threatened a strike in late August. He claimed Bangladeshi workers could disrupt tourism, hotels and restaurants. However, workers and unions showed limited support, and the protest was put on hold for talks.

An African Priest Serves Rural Italy's Spiritual Needs
In rural Italy, a unique story unfolds. Rev. Vincent Souly, originally from Burkina Faso, is bridging cultural gaps as a beloved priest in Prato, Tuscany. For 15 years, he's served a predominantly Italian congregation, forming deep connections. Despite his Italian citizenship, he faces challenges of acceptance. Souly reflects on his identity, saying, 'A piece of wood, no matter how long it stays in water, will never become a crocodile.' He prefers to be recognized by his heritage rather than the color of his skin. His journey highlights the complexities of belonging and the power of community.

"They warmly greeted Father Souly and invited him to stay for dinner. When he politely turned them down, telling them that he planned to visit a cancer patient in another village, Ms. Orlandi gently ribbed him.
“Give me a break,” Ms. Orlandi joked. “Who are you, the pope?” Mr. Ballotti asked Father Souly to come back the following week to watch a soccer match, but the priest said he would not have time."

The priest stepped into the bedroom where his 90-year-old parishioner lay sleeping in a hospital bed, flanked by oxygen tanks. The pastor towered over the bed and leaned down to move close to the patient, Carlo Martini, as the old man’s eyes fluttered open briefly.
“How are you?” the priest, the Rev. Vincent Souly, asked, a bit too loudly.
Mr. Martini’s wife, Renza Giagnoni, stood to the side and watched. “It looks like we’re the United Nations!” she said, also a bit too loudly.

Leo XIV Approves Maronite Archbishop of Damascus
Today, Pope Leo XIV has approved the election of Sharbel Ghattas Maroun as the new Maronite Catholic archbishop of Damascus. A Lebanese-born priest, he has spent much of his ministry in the United States.
Archbishop Maroun, 64, was elected by the Synod of Bishops of the Maronite Church. He succeeds Archbishop Samir Nassar, 76, whose resignation was accepted by the synod.
Since 2020, Maroun has served as protosyncellus, a senior position comparable to vicar general, of the Maronite Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles.
Born January 6, 1962, in Kfarselwan, Lebanon, Maroun briefly worked for Crédit Libanais bank.

Active Participation: You can participate without doing anything
I think one of the things we really need to clarify when we talk about “active participation” at Mass is what we actually mean by the word “active.” Because sometimes, especially when comparing the Novus Ordo with the Traditional Latin Mass, it seems like active participation is understood primarily as doing something externally: saying more responses, making more gestures, moving around more, singing more, serving at the altar, reading the readings, bringing up the gifts, or somehow having a physical task to perform during the liturgy. And I understand where that idea comes from. Obviously, the congregation should not be completely disconnected from what is happening at the altar. Catholics are not supposed to be spectators at Mass. We are there to worship God. But if we define “active participation” as simply having a job to do or making more external responses and movements, then we run into a pretty obvious problem. If …Dugang pa

Two pastors in South Korea have been fined 1 million won (about €620) each after loudly preaching on a domestic flight from Jeju to Seoul. They shouted that passengers would “go to hell” if they did not believe in Jesus, while one moved around the cabin. They continued despite instructions from the cabin crew to stop. A Seoul court found that their conduct constituted a disturbance under South Korea’s Aviation Security Act.

The court said the 64-year-old pastor stood in the aisle despite repeated attempts by crew members to stop him and shouted at passengers, “You will go to hell if you don’t believe in Jesus.”

BREAKING: Colorado DNA analyst Yvonne “Missy” Woods sentenced to 10 years after deleting male DNA in 32 rape cases — then reporting none was found.
She spent 29 years as CBI’s star expert. Investigators now say 1,045 of her cases are tainted. Over 400 were sexual assaults. One murder conviction already tossed.
An intern caught her. Concerns were raised more than a decade earlier. She kept testing rape kits anyway.
In court, supporters packed the room. Victims shouted “LIAR! LIAR! LIAR!” as she was cuffed and led out.
Colorado is now retesting more than 1,000 cases.
Prosecutors already cut plea deals in three murder cases rather than risk her work in front of a jury.

Stop the Massacres” - Nigerian Bishops
On August 27, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria called on the government and security agencies to step up efforts to combat killings and kidnappings following recent attacks in Benue and Niger states.
In a statement titled “Stop the Slaughter in Borgu and Ukum, Stop the Killings in Nigeria,” the bishops said the country was experiencing an “unabated trail of blood and terror” that had reached an “intolerable crest.”
The statement was signed by CBCN President Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso of Kaduna.
The bishops cited the recent killing of 47 people in Ukum, Benue State, where another 17 people were critically wounded. They also condemned the abduction of more than 60 Muslim worshippers in Borgu, Niger State.
They called for intelligence-led security operations. The aim is disrupting armed groups before they can carry out attacks. They also demanded the prosecution of the perpetrators and their sponsors, saying that “impunity fuels …Dugang pa
